I have never had the ability to sit still for very long. If i'm
watching a movie I am knitting, felting or some other activity. I
thought having to stay at home would be harder for me than it is.
Mostly, because i have created a new world for myself. Rather than
getting frustrated with the current situation I decided to challenge
myself. I challenge all of you to do the same. All you need is an alarm
clock and a little imagination.
I
have grown to know most of our congregation. We are a a bit higher on
the age scale . We also are set in our ways as good Presbyterians tend
to be. So here are some ideas that will embrace our strengths and
interests.
Set your alarm for 8
am. If your already up great if not get yourself around and dressed. Fix
yourself a drink ( preferably non-alcoholic) I prefer hot tea in the
mornings. Drink this outside if your able and weather permitting. No
phones, music or television. Just a silent moment . At 9 am go to the
Auburn Presbyterian Facebook page if able, and listen to Pastor David
do a morning devotional. It is worth your time this is very well done.
If you do not have Facebook read from the bible or devotional.
Your free until 11 am to do what you want, just don't forget to set
you're alarm for 11 am. Once your alarm goes off , walk the perimeter of
your home. Do this slowly. Take your time and see what new plants are
coming up, what animals are out, and I imagine you will see a few
neighbors walking by too. Don't rush you have all day. If done right
this should take you anywhere from 20-30 minutes. Next alarm setting is
for 2 pm.
You have had lunch and
maybe a nap and now your 2 pm alarm is going off. Call a friend
(hopefully one from church) and tell them what new you saw today while
you are walking outside or sitting on a porch. You could set up a call
with the same person or a group people that rotates who you call. What
ever gets you talking to someone else daily. Next alarm is 6 pm.
At 6 pm I am guessing most of us have had dinner. Now go back outside
and re-walk the perimeter of your home and see what has grown since
this morning. The great thing about being home right now is that it is
spring and a lot is changing daily in our outdoor theater. I do suggest
a 9 pm alarm to observe the nighttime sky. This is totally up to you.
Why do I suggest set times for us to do this together? Because even
though we are not physically with others we know we are doing these
activities together at the same time. This is merely a template. Change
it up. Call a friend or family member and ask them to do these things
with you daily. We are all in this together lets share together. If you
don't have a yard or porch get inventive. Go for a Walk by a house that
has a nice garden an watch it grow.
As spring moves forward I will write new suggestions for what to do
during these set times. These are just suggestions, you know better than
I what works for you. All I am trying to do is have us do something
together as a church family that will unite us through this time of
distancing. If you have ideas please send them to me at apcce111@gmail.com and I will be happy to add them into my next article.
If you are looking for something to do in between your alarm times
look for the next newsletter where I will have some new items ready for
you to try!!! Now for old ideas anyone wanting a puzzle please contact
me. I have about 20 different ones I would like to share with everyone
of there is a desire to use them.
God bless Kari
